Sunday Spotlight: Underground Makeup Companies

There are so many makeup companies out there it's not even funny! I hate to admit this, but I was the person that thought there was drugstore makeup and then there was MAC.....and that was it. I thought MAC was the end all, be all makeup brand and there were no others that topped it. Oh how wrong I was! Just this past year (2014) I started dabbling into the makeup world and experimenting with different brands that most of them I've absolutely fallen in love with! I feel like a lot of underground makeup brands don't get the recognition they deserve. So here are cosmetic brands that not too many people know about that I've found that I've either tried, or I'm wanting to try!

1. Trucco Lashes
I know this is a lash company and not a makeup company, but let me just say that I am in loveee with their lashes. The quality, the customer service, just bomb dot com. And I am affiliated with them, I just want to be upfront with all of you, but that is my honest opinion of this company. A social media friend of mine who has a YouTube channel (andrea_honey20) expressed in one of her videos that she had some issues with receiving her lashes from Trucco and she had a hard time getting ahold of them as they were out of the country at the time. So they refunded her money plus sent her 2 free pair of lashes. Like that is bomb customer service in my eyes. So Trucco, you the real MVP. And shout out to Andrea_Honey20! Hey girl!! If you're interested in some new lashes, use coupon code: BLOGOBSESSEDXO for 27% off of your 3D lashes + FREE shipping!

2. Pretty Zombie Cosmetics
The only products they have at the moment are liquid lipsticks (which are all the rage right now) and they look gorgeous! I can't wait to try this brand and they're really affordable, too! They're $12 a piece! They also claim they are vegan & cruelty free for those of you that are only interested in those cosmetic companies.

3. Melt Cosmetics
The only product I have from this company is their "Dark Room" lipstick that was limited edition a few months back, but thankfully they brought it back and is now permanent. It's a company I had never heard of until a few months ago and I think it's wonderful. They just expanded their collection from just lipsticks to eyeshadows, too now.

4. Makeup Monsters
The lipsticks are what really jump out at me from this company. They also have liquid lipsticks, but their regular lipsticks look just as good! The regular lipsticks are $13 and their liquid lipsticks are only $14!
5. Makeup Geek
Everyone and their mother have their eyeshadows and brushes and I can see why. The quality is off the wall and the price is just right. I'm obsessed with their foiled eyeshadows and if it's any consolation, Jaclyn Hill raves about this company.

6. Morphe
This is another company Jaclyn Hill obsesses over, especially their brushes. I am dying to get my hands on the G6 brush! Jaclyn Hill also came out with a limited edition eyeshadow palette with all of her favorite shadows from Morphe that pretty much broke the internet lol. Sorry Kim K, Jaclyn Hill is the real internet killer.

7. Bitch Slap! Cosmetics
The name of the company itself is pretty bold so you can only expect this company to have a very edgy vibe which you'll either love or hate. I personally love it and they have tons of products from cosmetics to tools to jewelry on their website. It's definitely worth checking out.

8. Colour Pop
This company is getting mentioned everywhere lately and it's starting to become a really popular company. I foresee them being displayed in cosmetic stores shortly! I did a Colour Pop Review awhile back before they even came out with their lippie stix and now they just came out with blushes so this company is just taking off in a phenomenal way, I am so impressed! They also teamed up with Kathleen Lights and Shaaanxo for some of their products.

9. Lime Crime
I know there is a tonnnnn of controversy on this company and I won't go into too much detail on it because I have in a previous post. If you're interested you can google the company or see the post here. But aside from all the craziness, they make great products and people want them so hey, why not?! All the YouTubers have Lime Crime lipsticks and velvetines so I think they're at least worth a shot. There must be something good about the company that keeps these people buying more.

10. Sugar Pill
I haven't heard too much on this brand, other than their loose pigment in Goldilux is super popular, but otherwise, I'm in the dark on this brand. If you have any insight on them or opinions, please leave me a comment :)

What are some underground, or "indie", makeup brands that you've heard of or have tried that are worth it?!

Colour Pop Blush Release!

Colour Pop announced that 20 of their supershock blushes will be released February 12th (that's only 3 days away!) and they will be $8 each. It's not a huge price difference from the lippie stix and shadows, but I thought they would continue with the $5 products. Regardless, I'm not complaining. What do you all think of the price change? The blushes are also said to be larger than the eyeshadows, but I haven't seen a side-by-side comparison yet.

Here are some swatches :) I really like Between The Sheets and Early Bird. They all look pretty pigmented and it looks like they kept the same signature texture on them like they have for their eyeshadows.

Can't Wait to Try: Brands

So there are a ton of brands out there that I never heard of before and I am so anxious to try every single one of them! Obviously it's not cost effective for me to get everything I want at once, so little by little I will be trying these brands and writing reviews for all of you. Here are the brands that caught my eye:

Colour Pop:
Now I know I already have a review on this brand, but that was before they came out with their Lippie Stix. They solely had eye shadows, but I am so anxious to try their Lippie Stix. I've heard great things about them, and for just coming out with them, they have quite a variety to choose from! They also have exact matches for lip liners which makes it soo easy because I always struggle to find a perfect liner to match with lipsticks.

Yes, there is a ton of controversy regarding this brand which I am fully aware of. And although I don't support what happened or their customer service, I can't turn down product that has great reviews. Their velvetines are mainly what I have my eye on, a few of their lipsticks, and a few of their eyeliners.

Pretty Zombie Cosmetics:
This is one that I don't know too much about. I haven't heard any reviews but their liquid to matte lipsticks look interesting and their color choice is awesome. They're more on the vampy side. If you haven't noticed a trend yet, I'm really into the liquid to matte lipsticks lately.

I believe this is a cosmetic line out of Australia which in turn would make my shipping an extreme price, so for this baby I'll be sure to grab everything I want in one shot so I don't pay multiple shipping fees. Their lipstick choices are also bold ones that I'm interested to dabble in and I think they have a cute name!

City Cosmetics:
I've heard some talk about this brand, but not too much. I've heard their lip plumper is pretty good so I've been interested in testing that out as well as some of their lip glosses. But lately I've been more of a lipstick than gloss kind of girl.

Dose of Colors:
Another liquid to matte lipstick brand. OMG They're just soo pretty I can't help it. They also have really pretty regular lipsticks that I'm excited to try and their highlighters look gorgeous as well. Oh heck, just give me everything!

ChiChi Cosmetics:
I honestly don't even know where I stumbled across this brand, but it's in my bookmarks on my Internet. The variety in their lipsticks is extremely appealing so I suppose that's what drew me to them.

I know many of these I'm interested in only for their lipsticks, but that's because I usually tend to stick with name brand (drugstore or high end) for foundations and such for my face, unless recommended otherwise. So if you have any suggestions, feel free to send them my way! More than likely I'll be running out to grab the product or order it online the next day! Eeeek.

If you've had any experience with these brands I'd love to hear whether negative or positive.

Thanks for viewing!

Pop of Color: Colour Pop Review

Yesterday I received my order from Colour Pop and I am in loovvee! The colors are so bright and pigmented, it's unreal! I must say the packaging was a bit much, but it's good to know they want to protect their product so that it comes in tact for you. It was a huge box with a smaller box inside that was wrapped in paper. Then each eyeshadow was individually bubble wrapped. It's good that they're thinking about the product but I was so excited to open the shadows and it took me forever to get to them! I suppose that's a good problem to have, though.

The shipping time was incredible too! I order these babies on Thursday and by Monday I had them in my posession! That means it only took TWO business days because of the weekend. Best timing ever because I get so anxious when I order something, so it was really great to have a fast delivery.

It came with a little hand written postcard with my name on it! How cute is that?! Definitely made it a personal experience that not many other companies do. Their reference to "our bestest betch" is because one of their products is named Bestest Betch, which is a quad. On the back of the post card there are some tips and tricks to using their products to get the most out of them. You can see this below.

The colors I purchased are mainly neutrals because  I'm boring like that, haha! But I did try to venture out and went with a deep purple for fall and also a coral color just because it was really pretty.

Named from Left to right, starting with the top row is Lace, a royal, deep purple.
Fringe, a light beige-ish gold.
Cheeky, a beautiful coral color that reminds me of spring and summer.
3, a dark brown color, a great color for fall.
Tassel, the perfect shimmery white.
And last, Get Lucky, which is a gold, metal tone.

All of their eyeshadows are only $5.00 and they have free shipping on orders $30.00 or more. I don't know about you, but free shipping always hooks me. I cannot wait to buy more of these beautiful shadows. I really enjoyed my experience with this company and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for shimmery shadows! I'm hoping they start to come out with a matte line soon.

I will be posting swatches later so you can get a better idea of what these lovely shadows look like when on skin. In the meantime, go check out their website at! You can also find them on Instagram @colourpopcosmetics

New Products

Happy Friday Eve babydolls! So glad the week is almost over! I just bought some new goodies that I'm super excited to receive and share with all of you! I purchased from Happiness Boutique (Free Shipping), Colour Pop (Free Shipping over $30), and Ulta (Free Shipping over $25) and this weekend I'll be going to Walmart and Target for more drugstore beauty products. Hopefully by next week I'll have received everything so I can do a haul :)

On September 1st myself and my newfound BFF, Michelle, will be sending out our swap boxes for each other! The boxes will contain a mixture between high end and drugstore products. We should receive them by the second week in September to do a swap box opening! I'll keep you darlings updated on that.

I'll also be posting my guest post either tonight or tomorrow and my post for the web magazine will go up Saturday. Goodness, I'm a busy woman lately! But I'm loving every minute of it :)

Thank you all for supporting me and viewing my blog!
