Sunday Spotlight: Underground Makeup Companies

There are so many makeup companies out there it's not even funny! I hate to admit this, but I was the person that thought there was drugstore makeup and then there was MAC.....and that was it. I thought MAC was the end all, be all makeup brand and there were no others that topped it. Oh how wrong I was! Just this past year (2014) I started dabbling into the makeup world and experimenting with different brands that most of them I've absolutely fallen in love with! I feel like a lot of underground makeup brands don't get the recognition they deserve. So here are cosmetic brands that not too many people know about that I've found that I've either tried, or I'm wanting to try!

1. Trucco Lashes
I know this is a lash company and not a makeup company, but let me just say that I am in loveee with their lashes. The quality, the customer service, just bomb dot com. And I am affiliated with them, I just want to be upfront with all of you, but that is my honest opinion of this company. A social media friend of mine who has a YouTube channel (andrea_honey20) expressed in one of her videos that she had some issues with receiving her lashes from Trucco and she had a hard time getting ahold of them as they were out of the country at the time. So they refunded her money plus sent her 2 free pair of lashes. Like that is bomb customer service in my eyes. So Trucco, you the real MVP. And shout out to Andrea_Honey20! Hey girl!! If you're interested in some new lashes, use coupon code: BLOGOBSESSEDXO for 27% off of your 3D lashes + FREE shipping!

2. Pretty Zombie Cosmetics
The only products they have at the moment are liquid lipsticks (which are all the rage right now) and they look gorgeous! I can't wait to try this brand and they're really affordable, too! They're $12 a piece! They also claim they are vegan & cruelty free for those of you that are only interested in those cosmetic companies.

3. Melt Cosmetics
The only product I have from this company is their "Dark Room" lipstick that was limited edition a few months back, but thankfully they brought it back and is now permanent. It's a company I had never heard of until a few months ago and I think it's wonderful. They just expanded their collection from just lipsticks to eyeshadows, too now.

4. Makeup Monsters
The lipsticks are what really jump out at me from this company. They also have liquid lipsticks, but their regular lipsticks look just as good! The regular lipsticks are $13 and their liquid lipsticks are only $14!
5. Makeup Geek
Everyone and their mother have their eyeshadows and brushes and I can see why. The quality is off the wall and the price is just right. I'm obsessed with their foiled eyeshadows and if it's any consolation, Jaclyn Hill raves about this company.

6. Morphe
This is another company Jaclyn Hill obsesses over, especially their brushes. I am dying to get my hands on the G6 brush! Jaclyn Hill also came out with a limited edition eyeshadow palette with all of her favorite shadows from Morphe that pretty much broke the internet lol. Sorry Kim K, Jaclyn Hill is the real internet killer.

7. Bitch Slap! Cosmetics
The name of the company itself is pretty bold so you can only expect this company to have a very edgy vibe which you'll either love or hate. I personally love it and they have tons of products from cosmetics to tools to jewelry on their website. It's definitely worth checking out.

8. Colour Pop
This company is getting mentioned everywhere lately and it's starting to become a really popular company. I foresee them being displayed in cosmetic stores shortly! I did a Colour Pop Review awhile back before they even came out with their lippie stix and now they just came out with blushes so this company is just taking off in a phenomenal way, I am so impressed! They also teamed up with Kathleen Lights and Shaaanxo for some of their products.

9. Lime Crime
I know there is a tonnnnn of controversy on this company and I won't go into too much detail on it because I have in a previous post. If you're interested you can google the company or see the post here. But aside from all the craziness, they make great products and people want them so hey, why not?! All the YouTubers have Lime Crime lipsticks and velvetines so I think they're at least worth a shot. There must be something good about the company that keeps these people buying more.

10. Sugar Pill
I haven't heard too much on this brand, other than their loose pigment in Goldilux is super popular, but otherwise, I'm in the dark on this brand. If you have any insight on them or opinions, please leave me a comment :)

What are some underground, or "indie", makeup brands that you've heard of or have tried that are worth it?!

Our First Date & First Kiss

Happy Valentine's Day my little love bugs! I hope you all have a wonderful, romantic and relaxing day today! Since today is Valentine's Day, I thought I would share with all of you my first date and my first kiss with my boyfriend. I don't normally talk about my personal life because I like to keep my blog focused towards makeup, fashion, and my opinions on certain products, but since today is technically a "holiday" I figured I'd share :)

Our first date was at a drive-in theater in June of 2011. If I'm not mistaken we went to go see Hangover 2 and Bridesmaids (it's been awhile lol). We went with three of my friends, so it was me him, another couple, and another friend of mine (fifth wheelin' it haha). One of my friends was driving and we got lost so we were a little late getting there. When we got there, he tried to be a gentleman and pay for me and I wouldn't let him, until my friends yelled at me and told me to let him pay. After that craziness, we found a parking space and laid blankets down on the grass. Since we were late, we missed most of the first movie so we just talked the rest of that movie. We had wonderful conversation and sparks were flying as well as butterflies fluttering.

I was lying on my back looking up at the stars and he was leaning over me looking at me as we talked. I saw a flash go by and I looked at him and said, "oh my god I just saw a shooting star!". He looked at me and said, "Make a wish," and kissed me! It was the most romantic thing ever and I still get butterflies 'til this day thinking about it. He later asked if I was hungry and I said no, but he was hungry so we walked over to the snack bar together.

By the time we got back, the second movie was starting. When it was time to leave, it had gotten really foggy out and my friend is a crazy driver to begin with and I'm not fond of cars due to a previous car accident, so a crazy driver + fog = now I'm scared. It wasn't fun lol. But I will say, he earned extra bonus points by comforting me. He knew I was scared/nervous, whatever you want to call it, so he put his arm around me, grabbed me close, held me and told me it was going to be okay. Sweetest thing EVER! Could he get any cuter?! Jeeze. And since that date, we didn't go a day without talking. It was the perfect first date. Now almost four years later and we're still together :)

I'm curious to know what your first date was with your hubby! Leave it in the comments :)

More From MAC!

I know I just posted about MAC's new waterproof foundation and their Philip Treacy collection, but they are coming out with yet another beautiful collection. Slow down MAC, I can't keep up! Seriously, just take all my money. This collection is Julia Petit and there aren't any crazy colors, it's just a very simple collection with gorgeous packaging. The package is a very simple, sleek black with either gold or rose gold accents. What are your thoughts on this collection? Have to have or pass? My favorites from this image are Boca and Sagu.

Coming Soon From MAC

This just in! MAC will be coming out with a new WATERPROOF Pro Longwear Foundation. This is perfect and just in time for the hot summer months ahead! What do you think of it? Will you be purchasing or is this something you'll be passing on? No word on when the release date is or how many shades, but once I receive that information I'll be sure to share with my lovely viewers :)

Such A LUSH!: 10 Best Products From LUSH Cosmetics

LUSH Cosmetics is an all natural cosmetic company that makes FRESH, HANDMADE products. I know people throw the word "fresh" around all the time and we don't think much of it, but I'm telling you, these products are so fresh, you can actually see some chunks of the fruits and veggies that are put into it! It's actually really incredible. The first time I heard of this brand I immediately fell in love. They have a really amazing background that is truly inspiring.

LUSH started out as a company called "Cosmetics To Go" which thrived for the first 6 years of business and then fell to an unfortunate plummet. That's when LUSH was born and now it's well known and a wonderful company with great products! Here is a list of some of their best sellers and well known products. All of their products are unique and great, but these are the ones that really stood out for me! What makes LUSH even more awesome is if you bring back 6 empty containers, you get one Fresh Face Mask for free! They are also cruelty free! But enough of the fluff, here are the top 10 products that stand out to me:

1. Bath Bombs (all of them!)
Make taking a bath fun with LUSH's bath bombs! They smell amazing and are super relaxing.
2. Fresh Face Masks (all of them!)
With the fresh ingredients, your face will love you for taking a break from all those harsh chemicals. Each one is great for different skin types.

3. Gorgeous Moisturizer (most expensive product)
The only reason I can think of that this product has such a jump in price is because of the ingredients. But all of the other products LUSH has to offer are really affordable. This one just happens to be it's own special sunshine. Here is LUSH's take on this moisturizer: "We firmly believe it’s the finest quality moisturizer on the market. When you buy a pot of Gorgeous, you’re spending your hard earned money on organic ingredients like orange blossom honey, extra virgin olive and wheat germ oils to leave your skin feeling soft and matte, perfect for day time. "
4. Tea Tree Water Toner
This product claims to reduce redness, clear blemishes, and reduce excess oils to keep a beautifully fresh looking face.

5. Ocean Salt Exfoliator (best seller)
Probably one of the best exfoliators out there that gets rid of dead skin and rejuvenates by unclogging pores.

6. Grease Lightning Cleanser
This is supposed to be the end all, be all spot treatment for blemishes. People swear up and down by this product to clear up a blemish over night. This is definitely worth trying!

7. Let The Good Times Roll Cleanser (best seller)
LUSH describes this best seller by stating, "Maize flour, corn meal and a dash of cinnamon powder gently exfoliate and leave you with a vibrant glow, and lightly hydrating corn oil helps skin to retain its moisture and elasticity."

8. Mask of Magnaminty Face & Body Mask
I can't tell you how many times I've seen this mask on the internet. It's all over the place! This is like an all in one deep cleanser. It reduces redness, soothes, clears pores of dirt, AND exfoliates. I can see why it's so popular!

9. Dark Angels Cleanser
This was the first ever LUSH product that I saw and I looked all over for it on the internet before I knew about LUSH. I thought maybe it was sold in Walmart (because seriously, what isn't sold there?) haha but boy was I wrong. Luckily I found out LUSH had a website and found this baby on there! FINALLY. Itis a black sugar and charcoal exfoliator but it also soothes and calms irritated skin.

10. Angels On Bare Skin Cleanser
This is another great cleanser that gets the job done.

BONUS: Ro's Argan Body Cream
I actually watched a video of Rositaapplebum's that showed a LUSH employee rubbing this all over her arm and then when she rinsed it off, she was amazed at how silky soft her skin felt. Which is why I now have my eyes on this baby like a hawk! I can't wait to try this. It's a fairly popular product, too!

What are YOUR favorite LUSH products?!

Traveling Checklist

In about a week I will be traveling so I thought this post was appropriate as I'm sure most of you will be traveling for Spring Break soon! I am a heavy packer; packing lightly doesn't exist to me lol. I seriously feel like I need to bring my entire wardrobe, shoe collection, and makeup collection with me just in case. Because you never know what could happen, right? Whether you're flying or taking a road trip, there are always essentials you need to pack. So here's what I suggest when packing for a trip:

Hopefully this was helpful for you. The only other thing I think that could be added to this list is an iPod and headphones. If you have something that you feel should be added to this list that you think is a necessity when traveling, please leave them in the comments :)

NEW at Sephora

Sephora is now carrying Giorgio Armani cosmetics! For those of you that are loyal to Sephora and like shopping there for all your needs, now you can pick up the raved about foundation, Luminous Silk. I am actually glad they finally carry their products because of this reason. I like shopping at Sephora for all my needs, I'm not one to shop at 4 different stores just to get everything on my list so this is great. What do you think of this? Are you excited or does it not really matter to you?

Past Hair Trends

Most of the time, when trends change, you don't really notice it's happening. One day something's really popular and an hour later it's on to the next big thing. It's really interesting to take a look back in time and see what used to be popular then as opposed to what's popular now. Sometimes you have to think to yourself, "What were they thinking?!" and other times you wish the trends would make their way back around, like they always do.

Flappers were popular back in the 1920's with their short bobs.

Finger waves became popular in the 30's which I think is such a classic, pretty way to do hair.

When you think 1940's and 50's, pin up girls with beautiful victory rolls come to mind. Marilyn Monroe is an icon that comes to mind when 1950's are mentioned.

In the 60's, they must have believed the quote, "The higher the hair, the closer you are to heaven" because beehive hair was super popular. Thankfully that faded.

A middle part with either pin straight or wavy hair was popular in the 70's and sometimes the "hippies" would throw on a headband.

In the 80's it was all about teased hair with tons and tons of hair spray, think Madonna. I am so glad I missed that era.

The 90's was Jennifer Aniston's year to shine with her famous "Rachel" hair cut that everyone wish they could get.

I personally think of Kim Kardashian when I think of the 2000's with the big, loose curls and a middle part.

My favorite hairstyles are from the 40's, 50's, and 2000's.

Which were your favorite years?

Woman Crush Wednesday

Every girl has to admit that they have a woman crush, especially with so many beautiful women in the world. First off, I'm completely and utterly straight, these are just females that I admire for their style, makeup, and/or personalities. If a girl tells you they don't have a WCW, they're lying!

Adrienne Bailon
I've loved her since way back when she first started her journey in fame in 3LW and the Cheetah Girls. She is a beautiful woman (whose makeup is on pointtttt lately!) and she seems to have a radiant personality with a little feistiness to her.

Ariana Grande
Oh my goodness can we say in love? When she was on Victorious I absolutely loved her red hair but this grown up version of her is a million times better. She is sexy but classy and has an amazing singing voice. Um, can I be her?
Blake Lively
I first found out about this actress when I watched The Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants when it first came out years ago. Then I followed her acting career onto Gossip Girl as the character "Serena" and fell in love with her. She's just a gorgeous blonde bombshell with a sense for fashion!
Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester)
You can't have Serena without Blair! I'm aware her real name isn't Balir Waldorf, but since I'm going in alphabetical order I thought I'd use her character name. This woman is beautiful with a wonderful sense of fashion and an attitude that will knock you off your seat.
 Chelsea Houska
I was rooting for her on Teen Mom because of the struggle she goes through with being a single mom. She's such a pretty woman with a silly personality plus she loves makeup and hair like me :)

Draya Michele
A "FINE A** GIRL" to say the least. She has her own clothing line (Fine A** Girls). She is flawless and her makeup is done beautifully with a sexy fashion style.

Drita Davanzo
The baddest there is out there. She has a killer tongue and a mean right hook. She doesn't play games and she doesn't take sh** from anyone, plus she's gorgeous! She has her own makeup line (Lady Boss) which is so inspiring!

Erica Mena
Although I'm not a fan of her fly-off-the-handle personality and her rude mouth, there is no denying that she is a beautiful woman. The pictures speak for themselves.

Eva Longoria
I can only wish I look that good when I get to be her age. She is flawless and her sense of style fits me well. I loved her character Gabrielle on Desperate Housewives.

Eva Marie (WWE Diva)
Her makeup is always on point (I need to find out who her MUA is and steal them from her, lol). I love her red hair, it's so bold and looks so good on her! She has the body of a goddess and her wedding dress was incredible!

Who are you WCW?!
