Houston, We Have A Problem

Most of us that are self taught (like myself), and even some professional MUA's tend to struggle with certain techniques. Some people are better at contouring, others don't grasp the concept or just can't get it right.

As you all can see from my last post of my Makeup Collection, I own a ton of eyeshadow palettes. The funny thing is, I hardly ever use them because I rarely ever use eyeshadow. Reason being, I suck at it. Yup, plain and simple. I'm awful at doing my eyeshadow. My eyes are so small that it's hard to get shades for the brow bone, crease, outer V, and my lid without them all blending together to look like one shade. I love seeing all these images on Instagram and Pinterest of these beautifully done eyes but it also makes me feel insecure or a little inferior because that is one of my biggest downfalls when it comes to makeup.

Speaking of downfalls, brows are another thing that I struggle with. I know everyone is all about brows now and they have to be "on fleek" but my eyebrows are so mis-shaped from tweezing them at a young age so I'm trying to grow them out to re-shape them. It's taking foreverrrrrr though. Like I'm talking it's been almost 3 years since I've touches these bad boys and they've only grown out a smidge. Hopefully once they grow out I'll be able to shape them how I want and I'll be able to grasp a technique that fits me.

It gets extremely frustrating though. Like I literally just sat down yesterday and tried to watch and follow a tutorial on eyeshadow and it looked nothing like the video. Mad, or nah?! Yeah, definitely mad. It just doesn't make sense to me because I'm great at a lot of other things. Take winged eyeliner for example, many people struggle with winged eyeliner and I picked it up the first day I tried it. Yeah I have some off days with it, but regardless, I know how to fix it when I do mess up. Eyeshadow and brows on the other hand, not so much.

Many people keep telling me it just takes practice, but honestly I have practiced and it always turns out the same, so I don't understand. Truthfully, when it comes to eyeshadow, I blame my eyes for being so small *wahhh*. The struggle is real!

I'm sure I'm not the only on that has these frustrations when it comes to makeup, so what do you struggle with?

Beauty Discounts

Are you tired of spending hundreds of dollars at cosmetic stores? The prices of the high end make-up can get outrageous! $60 for a make-up brush?! I can't see myself justifying spending that much on a make-up brush. Many people may not know this, because I didn't up until recently, but for those of you that are licensed make-up artists (MUA's), there is a long list of cosmetic lines, both high end and drugstore, that will give you discounts if you provide proof that you are licensed. Some cosmetic lines will even accept proof of enrollment if you are a cosmetology student. Of course the licensed MUA's receive a better discount than the students, but something is better than nothing! And I'm always up for a discount.

Typically they'll ask for a photo ID and two items from the list below, but some cosmetic lines can be more detailed and require more information. Some requirements to be approved for these discounts are listed below.

Discount card from other company
A copy of your driver ’s license or state/federal photo ID
Business card
Reference from a makeup gig
Comp Card
Professional Website
Union Card
Tear Sheets
Call Sheet
Agency Information
One time fee or annual fee
Students: Proof of enrollment
