Feeding Your Goals; Empowerment & Loving Yourself

I am going to try to post a blog about the videos I post on YouTube so they coincide! Two nights ago I posted a video about empowerment, going for your goals, and loving yourself. The post was inspired by a video I saw on YouTube by Shamy Slefo named "I'm Too Syndrome" which is basically explaining that people make up excuses starting with "I'm too ______". I'm too tired, I'm too inexperienced, I'm too uneducated, I'm too broke, I'm too - whatever other excuses you could possibly think of!

(I did not copy right her video, I just wanted to add my thoughts to it because of how much I loved her video. Her video was an inspiration. In no way did I intend to copy right. She is the original creator of the "I'm Too Syndrome" video)

Shamy Slefo's Video

My Video

This video hit home for me and I decided to post a video about it myself. The reason it was so relatable is because I was in that exact same mind-frame when it came to making this blog and YouTube videos! I was so nervous wondering if i would have the time and I was worried about not really knowing the in's and out's of the virtual blogging and YouTube world. I was afraid about what people would think or say until one day I pushed my fear and insecurity aside and said "This is what I want to do, so I'm going to do it!". Although I'm still learning new things about blogging and how to get my blog noticed, and different effects on YouTube, I'm learning as I go and that's okay. Even the greatest experts had to start somewhere, right?

The only barrier in your life is YOU! I was my own barrier and now that I've stepped out of my comfort zone, I'm absolutely loving what I do! You are the only person standing in the way of reaching your goals. In my video, I explain you need to take the necessary steps in order to reach that goal; whether it's baby steps or jumping in head first. I always thought in order to be successful, you had to dive right in, but that is NOT the case. If you are working full-time, or a mother, both, or just a busy person in general - take baby steps. You may have other responsibilities, but your goals are still attainable! Doing one small thing to work towards your goal everyday will make you that much closer than you were the day before! It is such a good feeling being productive rather than sitting at home all day watching Netflix (which is something I'm guilty of prior to going for my own goals).

Keep your head up! I know things get tough and stressful sometimes and there are times when you feel like you have too much on your plate, but once you reach that goal - I promise you will be thrilled with the outcome. I never imagined having a blog that has 150+ views in a month (which hopefully continues to increase). So I want to thank you all for viewing my blog and really making me believe in myself. My first post was about Pinterest and after I did that post, I stopped posting for about a month because I didn't really think this blog thing was going anywhere. So, I told myself I was going to post a few more times and see what happened, and if I didn't like the results, I was going to stop. But, you all changed my mind because after I posted about Mane and Tail and wearing prints, my views sky rocketed! That was a sign that this is what I'm supposed to be doing. So thank you ALL!

Please don't give up on your dreams because we need more people to do great things in this life. My favorite quote when it comes to reaching your goals is, "You always miss 100% of the shots you don't take". This is a quote that was in my 8th grade classroom years ago and it has always stuck with me. If you don't try, you'll never know just how great you could be. So please, stop with the crazy excuses and just DO!

If you stopped going to school and want to go back - GO! Find out what you'd like to go back for and then make the first step of getting enrolled, then register for some classes. If you work full-time, try to do school part-time, like one or two classes at a time. See if the school offers weekend classes or night classes to accommodate your schedule.

If you don't feel like school is for you and you want to do something more towards the arts - DO IT! Get on YouTube and start making some videos; SO many people get famous from making YouTube videos - or even Vine videos.

If you want to start a business - GO FOR IT! Find out the necessary steps to take in order to start a business. Start off small and eventually build it into a franchise, or a bigger corporation. If you know someone in the particular field you want to start a business in, shadow them or just sit and talk to them to find out about what they did to get to where they are today. Anything is helpful.

Do some research, send some e-mails, just take initiative! Starting somewhere is better than staying where you are. Move forward or you'll never get to your destination. Stop telling yourself  negative "You're too _____" statements. Tell yourself you're too great not to at least try. It is better to try and fail than regret not trying at all!

On another note, everyone has something they don't like about themselves, but try to learn to love yourself inside and out; from head to toe. Your exterior doesn't affect your personality. You are still the same person no matter what people think. You are beautiful the way you are. You were made exactly the way you are for a reason. Stop listening to other's opinions and negativity and don't change a damn thing about your pretty little self! Especially not for someone else. If you are going to change yourself, do it for YOU!

Love yourself and go after your dreams. They don't call it dream chasin' for nothin'!

Healthy Hair Tips

If I knew all the tips about maintaining healthy hair then that I know now, I would have the most luxurious, long locks ever! But instead, I was careless about what products I put on my hair or how much heat I used. Not saying my hair is damaged, because the last time I went to the salon they told me my hair was actually healthy, it just needed a trim (which is what I was there for), but it could be healthier, thicker, and longer in my opinion! For healthy hair, here are some tips I've learned over the years:

1. Use minimal heat and when you do apply heat use a heat protectant spray prior to using hair tools that have heat! The one I use is by John Frieda called Frizz Ease Heat Protectant Spray. I simply just mist this all over my hair, then comb through before blow drying, flat ironing, or curling. There are also alternatives to styling your hair with heat. Instead of straightening, curling or blow drying - put your hair in a braid, put it into a bun, or throw some serum in your hair to make it shine and rock the natural look and throw a head band on if you don't want your hair in your face.

2. Stop pulling your hair back so tight. It doesn't need to be glued to your head to look nice. Natural looking is always better. Pulling it back so tight is how your hair line starts to receed over time and no one likes a 5-head. Get with it, girlies.

3. This is more of a superstition than a tip, but I was told to trim your hair depending on the phases of the moon. By doing this, it helps it grow longer and stronger. I was told to only cut your hair on a full moon, but after doing some research, it appears that trimming your hair during a new moon is more beneficial to those trying to grow their hair out. I only trim mine about every 5 months because I noticed when i was trimming it frequently, I was just cutting off the growth of my hair.

4.Take a multi-vitamin or a hair, skin, and nails vitamin. I personally take the Hair, Skin, and Nails Gummies by Nature's Bounty at Walmart for $4.92. It is recommended to take 2 a day based on a 2,000 calorie diet and there is 2,500 mcg of Biotin in these gummies which is great! Biotin plays a major role in hair and nail growth and repair.

5. Hair is made of a protein called keratin. Because your hair is made up of protein, why not include protein in your diet? That would only make sense! So be sure to be eating a well balanced diet with protein included.

6. This is something that I was completely guilty of, as I'm sure many of you are. Brushing your hair when wet is an absolute NO! Do not do it as it causes the hair to break which in turn can cause more dreaded split ends. I know some of your hair may be hard to manage after a shower, even after conditioning, so instead of trying to yank out those awful knots, use a detangling spray and a wide toothed comb. The two I've used are the John Frieda Frizz Ease Daily Leave-In Conditioning Spray ($5.99) which now has a newer bottle than the one I have, but it is the same product. I also use the Mane and Tail Detangler which is $5.29.

7. Use sulfate free hair products. Sulfates are found in household cleaning products and I'm don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to use household cleaning products on my hair. I never used to put too much thought into what shampoo and conditioner I used, I would just pick one that smelled good, but for the past year I've been using sulfate free shampoo and conditioner. One of my previous posts is about Mane and Tail, which is the sulfate free shampoo and conditioner I've been using. For the full review, please click on the link.
8. This is a new one for me - put a protectant on your hair to protect it from UV rays from the sun. I personally have not done this yet, but it is definitely a good idea. The product for this that I've heard good reviews for is Aveda Sun Care Protective Hair Veil for $28.00. The only reason, and I mean absolute only reason, this made sense to me is the way it was described to me. The way this tip was explained to me was as follows, say it is 100 degrees outside with the sunshine shining and your hair is down with no protectant. Now think of having your flat iron or curling iron at 100 degrees on your hair for hours at a time. Definite damage, right? I think this is such a good tip to start getting in the habit of, including myself as well. The sun doesn't only cause damage to skin, but hair as well. Keep your hair protected the rest of this summer :)

Daily Make-Up

I am just starting to dabble in the make-up world, so most of the make-up I've purchased thus far has been drug-store brand. I am starting to venture out into the more expensive, well-known make-up and will be doing reviews on them once I do :) This post is about the make-up I wear pretty much on a daily basis (when I feel like doing my make-up lol).

For my concealer, I literally just tried this for the first time and I fell in love. Don't let the low price fool you into thinking it's cheap. I've learned the hard way that expensive does not always mean good quality. The coverage is amazing and it blends very well. I like to put concealer in all the places I want concealed first, and then I'll go back and sponge it in. Sometimes when I do that with certain concealers, the product gets almost stuck to my face and you can tell where the concealer was. With this product, that does not happen at all and I love it!

NYX HD Photogenic Concealor (CW04 Beige)
Ulta $4.99

I have been using this foundation for about a year now. Before this, I was using Benefit's "Gorgeous" from Ulta and before that I used Bare Minerals. This product is about half the price of the other two products I used and I like it better, too. I was never really a fan of liquid foundation, but I decided to try it and to me, I don't think this gives a caked-on look. It blends fairly nice, sometimes it can get a little thick, but you just have to make sure you're blending it properly which is something I had to learn over time.
Neutrogena Shine Control (Nude 40) SPF 20
Walmart $12.77

I use this to set my liquid foundation. It is very light and it comes with it's own brush inside the package. It sets my make-up very well to help it stay on all day and gives it a more airbrushed, finished look.
Revlon PhotoReady (020 Light/Medium)
Walmart $11.58

I just recently tried this bronzer and I really like the color. When I first started using this, I had a hard time blending it into my skin to make it look natural without any harsh lines, but a little bit goes a long way.
NYX Matte Bronzer (Medium)
Ulta $8.99

Great primer! A little on the pricey side for how small the bottle is, but I use this to keep my eyeshadow on all day. Another trick I use is after putting my primer and eyeshadow on, I spray a spritz of hairspray onto my finger and dab it onto my eye, carefully so I don't get any actually in my eyes. This really helps to keep it in place all day. I love Urban Decay and all of their products I've tried thus far!
Urban Decay Eyeshadow Prime Potion
Ulta $20.00

I'm not a big fan of the mascara that has a rubber brush. I like the old school bristles on my mascara wands. The rubber ones tend to make my mascara clump and I hate that! This is perfect for every day mascara. You can tell you have it on, but it's not too dramatic to where people think you have fake lashes.
L'Oreal Voluminous Original Mascara (Blackest Black)
Walmart $5.84
I have been using this eyeliner for the past 4-5 years and I'm actually looking for something new. It's very smooth and I like the product, but I would like it more if it lasted without smudging throughout the day. I want something that stays on longer and looks more clean and crisp. I'm thinking about trying the Stila Stay All Day eye liner.
Maybelline Eyestudio Eye Liner (Blackest Black)
Walmart $7.94

These palettes are a bit pricey and you can find cheaper palettes that are extremely similar, but I love the Naked palettes and I think they are worth the money! They come with beautiful neutral colors; browns, blacks, pinks, and beiges. The only palette I had an issue with was the Naked 2. The eyeshadow was so loose it fell right off underneath my eye. I'm not sure if they did something differently to the 2 than they did to the other palettes, or maybe I'm the only one that had that experience, but that's my only dislike. All three palettes come with it's own brush.
Naked, Naked 2, and Naked 3 Palette
Ulta $54.00 each

Love love love love love this eyeshadow! It stays on so well and the color is just to die for! It is an iridescent white/champagne color and it is perfect for highlighting your brows and tear ducts.
L'Oreal Paris Infallible Eyeshadow (Iced Latte)
Walmart $6.97

I never touched my eyebrows before until someone at Ulta did my make-up and I realized how much defining your eyebrows can make a difference! I immediately bought this kit and I've been using it ever since. It's lasted me a pretty long time, too! I know the price is a bit much, but IT IS WORTH IT. I promise! It comes with 2 brushes, one angled, and one to fill in. It also comes with small travel sized tweezers.
Benefit Brow Zings
Ulta $32.00

Favorite Nail Polish Colors

Here are some of my favorite nail polishes throughout the seasons!
For Spring and Summer, I usually go with pastels and sometimes when I'm feeling daring, neons. The Fresh Paint nail polish I purchased from 5 Below. They usually have a sale for buy 3 for $5 and I absolutely love their nail polish! It's not thin like most cheap nail polish. The PINK brand I purchased from Victoria's Secret where each bottle is $10, but right now they are having a sale for 2 for $12 or 4 for $20! The brand Pure Ice I purchased from Walmart which was only $1.97!

Pom-Pom comes out in such a baby pink and the picture of the paint does not do it justice! The picture makes it look like a lot darker pink than what it really is.

My absolute favorite polish is the Papaya. This picture makes it look more of an orange color, but it's actually a beautiful coral color. I'm running out of this color because of how much I use it and I can't find it anywhere to get a new one! *sad face*

The Victorias Secret PINK nail polish line has beautiful colors! The one I chose for spring/summer is a mint green which is one of my favorite colors! Personally, I think this comes out a little too light, so you have to use quite a few coats to get the desired look, but it's still a really cute color.

The bright, neon pink, High Voltage is beautiful when you're feeling bold! This very bright color is perfect to stand out in the summer sunshine.

The Bonna Blue color is such a pretty baby blue. It's actually what I have on my toes right now (until tomorrow when I go get my nails done and a pedicure). It reminds me of Essie's Bikini So Teeny.

The Honeydew color is almost like a lime green, but a lot more toned down so it isn't in-your-face bright! This is perfect if you want a bold color, but not too bright.

From Left to Right: Pom-Pom, Papaya, I Kissed A Surfer, High Voltage, Bonna Blue, Honeydew

These are some of my nail polish picks for the cooler seasons, Fall and Winter. I tend to go with darker colors in the colder months.

Grapevine Goddess is a deep purple that has a bit of sparkle entwined with it. I know it looks almost black in the picture and you may not even be able to see what brand it is, but it is by Fresh Paint. Even though it looks extremely dark, this color comes out in such an iridescent, shimmery purple.

Delicious by Fresh Paint is a gorgeous deep red for when you're feeling sexy. I always thought red was such a sexy, mysterious color :)

Blue My Mind by PINK is a royal blue and oh my goodness this color is perfection! I am obsessed with royal blue ANYTHING!

Coach Ella is a nude color which is such a classic in my opinion. Nude nails are ALWAYS acceptable!

Siren by Pure Ice is more of a bright, fire engine red. This is such a beautiful red and would go with a great red lip!

From Left to Right: Grapevine Goddess, Delicious, Blue My Mind, Coach Ella, Siren

These two colors are awesome for an accent nail, or to go over top of another color. Whether you're more of a gold girl or a silver girl, these would go great on your nails as an accent and they'd go great with your gold/silver jewlery.

Bling It is more of a nail polish to go over top of another color for a little pop of glitter. It doesn't have the consistency to cover an entire nail without leaving white spaces, but with enough coats I assume it's possible.

After Party could definitely be used for a gold accent color. I truly am in awe with this color and how thick and rich it is. There isn't an overload of glitter, so it isn't an overwhelming glitter color, but it has the consistency to cover the entire nail.

From Left to Right: Bling It, After Party

$top Breaking Your Piggy Bank

Ever feel like you try to save money, but for some reason your bank account always falls short? Now normally I'd post about things I purchased or justified necessities like my previous posts, but this post I’m going to describe my saving habits, rather than my spending addiction. I’ve always had an enormous desire to shop ‘til I drop, but oddly enough I have always had a knack for saving money as well. Dependent upon one’s income and the bills they have to pay, the amount left over CAN be put away. I had a job since the age of 15 and the minute I started I would either save up for something I really wanted, or just throw the money directly into a savings account where I couldn’t see it.

I know many of you don’t carry cash anymore because plastic has become the new currency of America, but for me, carrying cash helped me save so much more than having a debit card. Now that I have a debit card, I am swipe happy. The reason I say carrying cash helped so much is because the change I would get back would be saved. I would put $1 and $5 bills away in a drawer where I almost forgot about them, along with putting change into a piggy bank and let it accumulate. Within three or four months, I had somewhere around $400 saved! Seriously? Just in $1’s and $5’s? YES! That's on top of everything else I was already saving in my bank account.

Another thing that helped was opening multiple accounts at different banks or credit unions. I had an account at two different credit unions and one bank. This helped me to forget that I had money in different places. There was a time I was short for something and at the last minute I realized I had $100 in my other account. It is always good to have a safety net when it comes to money, because in this economy, you NEVER know! So here's a break down:
1. Start carrying cash

2. Make a budget & cut back on spending (this was the hardest part for me)
3. Save your coins, $1's and $5's

4. Get multiple bank accounts so that you can have one you use regularly, and put money away in the other one to forget about and just let the money pile up. Below is an example chart. I wish it wasn't so blurry, but it's the only really good example I could find. Obviously you could name the accounts and use them differently.

5. Eliminate your debt as quickly as possible. The minute you get the bill, if you have the money in the bank but were going to do something that is just a luxury, FORGET ABOUT IT. Drop whatever fun or relaxing thing you were going to use that money for, and pay that bill! Bills are always priorities, then fun. The sooner you pay off your debt, the more money you'll have to save.

6. Stop justifying reasons to spend money. Tell yourself it's not a necessity, and save that money!
7. My last tip is to try to save either a specified amount each month, or gradually increase the amount you save each month (I saw this tip on Pinterest) Below is a chart that shows just how much you can save this way
I am so doing this...52 Week Money Saving Challenge 26 Week Double
52 Week Money Challenge
If you follow these steps, I promise you will have money saved in no time!
Thanks for reading, I hope you can implement these tips into your daily saving!

What's in My Purse?

What I Keep in my Purse

What a girl keeps in her purse can say A LOT about her and her personality. You can get to know the things she likes, and what she feels is necessary to carry around with her on a day to day basis. Sometimes you can tell how hygenic a girl is by what she carries with her as well. The purse I have a Michael Kors Jet Set Signature Logo Tote that is still on the Michael Kors website for $178.00. It has three separate compartments as well as two outside side pockets and four compartments inside. It is great if you are one to carry a million things in your purse like me. You can find it at the link below. I've had this purse for almost a year now, so I'm looking into getting a new one, and soon! Suggestions would be great :)
Michael Kors Jet Set Signature Tote

I don't know about you, but my purse weighs a TON and I always feel like I'm carry around bricks with how heavy my purse is. I always joke around saying it feels like I carry around a body all day, but I don't - so here's what I really carry around:

A pack of spearmint Stride gum to keep my breath smelling fresh, a mint EOS egg chapstick to keep my lips moisturized; I also carry an E.L.F lip exfoliator that I got from Target for like $2! There's a Bath and Body Works hand sanitizer attached to my purse handle in the Caribbean Escape scent. The hand sanitizer is held in a purple holder with rhinestones on the side that I also purchased from Bath and Body Works. Another Bath and Body Works product I keep in my purse is a Sweet Pea body spray.

I keep my iPod with me, as well as ear buds, just in case I'm in the car for a long time - I just hook my iPod to the AUX cable in my car, or if I'm sitting alone somewhere I'll pop my headphones in. I try to stay hygenic as possible, so I also carry an extra deodorant with me because you just never know! I use the Degree Girl Just Dance deodorant.

My hair is typically always down (except for this month - I'm trying a month of no heat, so I've had my hair in braids almost every day! I'll post about my experience with that.) But for when it is down, I keep a handful of hair ties in my zippered pocket so that they aren't just all laying at the bottom of my bag, because then it becomes a hassle trying to dig for them.

I keep my favorite pen in my purse which is actually from Planet Fitness. I love it because it writes in such a pretty purple color. A Dunkin Donuts coupons that I shoved my bag (which actually expire soon, so I'm going to head there today!). By the way, I usually get an iced caramel latte with extra sugar :)

I keep silver dangle teardrop earrings in my side pocket, because you never know when you'll have to go from casual to dressy. Sunglasses also a huge neccessity, especially when driving or if I'm outside somewhere, so those are also stuffed in my purse. I don't tend to wear them too often just because it hasn't become a habit for me yet, but I'm trying to get myself in the routine of wearing them. Lastly, and most importantly, my keys are kept in my purse as well. I don't keep too much on my key ring, but I have my house key as well at my car key. I also have a coach key chain that is white and to hold my keys I have a small wrist holder that is pink with white polka dots with a circle at the end that has my first initial on it.

I have a Vera Bradley wallet that is pink, brown, black, and white. I aboslutely love how big it is and how many compartments it has. I wish I could find a Michael Kors wallet that was as big and convenient as this one. Anywho, I keep the usual bank cards, drivers license, and check book in there. I also have my car registration in there, LOL, I have no idea why! That should definitely be in my glove compartment IN my car...NOT my wallet.

There is a Rita's Italian Ice "savings for a rainy day" coupon that I got like 3 months ago and have yet to use! I am certified in CPR and First Aid, so I keep those in my wallet just in case. My Triple A card is a definite necessity because cars can be so unpredictable, I'll save that  topic for another day. I also have an Ulta rewards card that I keep in my wallet as well as two gift cards, one for Macy's and the other for Bed Bath & Beyond

Lastly, in the zippered part of my wallet, I always, ALWAYS, keep a piece of a magazine I cut out when I was a senior in high school. I was in photography class and we had to make a collage. When I found this quote in a magazine, I decided to keep it forever (and eventually laminate it since it's getting a bit torn up). It says, "I think we deserve people who really, really love us". For some reason, it was just inspiring, and still is. It's a reminder not to accept people in your life who don't really care, and to appreciate those that do.

Thank you so much for reading. I hope you enjoyed seeing what I carry in my purse.

Mane and Tail Review

Mane and Tail Review

I couldn't imagine using a product that is used for animals. It sounded so barbaric to me, but I heard so many people ranting and raving about it that I absolutely had to try it! Mane and Tail can be found at any local drug store such as Walgreens, CVS, and even Walmart. The price runs for about $8.00 for a 32 fl. oz. bottle, but a lot of the time they are on sale for buy 1 get 1 FREE! And lets be honest, who doesn't like free?! Anyway, I got mine at CVS while they were having the buy 1 get one free sale and it was one of the best purchases I've made!

I have been trying to grow my hair out for about 3 and a half years now and I feel like I'm getting NO WHERE with it. I've tried everything from trimming it frequently, using hair masks, multi-vitamins - you name it, I tried it. A friend of mine told me about Mane and Tail and how it made her hair grow really fast - her hair is past her waist, almost at her butt. Because it worked for her, I figured I'd try it.

I used it for about 3 and a half months and let me tell you, I don't think I will ever use another shampoo and conditioner again! I was so pleased with the way it made my hair and it came as a shock. In those 3 and a half months my hair grew about 3 - 4 inches. Normally, your hair grows at a rate of 1/2 an inch a month, but with this product mine was growing almost double that! I do have to say, I was also using Macadamia Natural Hair Oil Deep Repair Masque from Ulta (which I absolutely loved) so that may have played a part in keeping my hair healthy as well. I only used that about once a week, though. The Macadamia Hair Masque was a bit pricey; it was $33 but it lasted me about three months. I really liked that product as well. They also have a cheaper version of this that I haven't tried yet, but it's called Hydrating Macadamia Oil Intensive Mask by Organix which is also at Ulta for $7.99!

My hair tends to fall out everywhere: the shower, the sink, the floor. It doesn't matter what I'm doing to it - I could be brushing it, straightening it, curling it, shampooing it - whatever I'm doing, it falls out excessively. With this product, I noticed my hair stopped shedding almost 75%! I wasn't noticing as much hair in the shower or on my floors. I was ecstatic.

Like any other conditioner, I noticed I was using that up more than I was the shampoo, but that's normal for me. Personally, I don't think Mane and Tail has too much of a scent in my opinion, but it definitely didn't smell bad, that's for sure! So that's a plus.

Mane and Tail also has other products like detangler which I've also tried. It's almost like a hair mist. It doesn't leave any type of residue on your hair it just leaves it feeling natural, but helps it to untangle. I like the detangler, but I don't love it as much as I do the shampoo and conditioner. They also have a hair strengthener that I am anxious to try. (I'll have to review that once I do!) I would recommend at least trying Mane and Tail shampoo and conditioner for healthier hair! I have very fine hair and it helped to thicken it up a bit.

Warning! There is no guarantee that this product will work the same way for someone else as it did for me, but it is definitely worth a shot!
